Mentoring Programs

All of AGWA's mentors hold a valid Certified Grant Writer credential and have at least 5 years of experience in the grant industry.  Mentors who provide Review Services have at least 5 years experience as a grant consultant. 


AGWA offers the following 5 Mentoring Options to its members:

Career Mentor
This is the traditional Mentor-Protege Program.  The Mentor offers career advise to the member in the fields of grantseeking, grant management, or grant consulting.  The program is comprised of three phone conversations, once per month, over a three month period.  The phone conversations are limited to 30 minutes each.  The Mentor is limited to providing career advise.  The Mentor may not review any letter, proposal, or application for a grant or serve as a grant writing instructor.  Member Price:  $49.00

Review Mentor for a Foundation Grant
Review of a Letter or Proposal for a Foundation or Corporate Grant

The Mentor will provide a professional review of one letter or proposal for a Foundtion or Corporate Grant including the Budget and Budget Narrative for program support, general operating support, or capital support.  The Mentor is limited to providing advice and recommendations and may not provide any writing, researching, budgeting, or rewriting services.  Member Price:  $49.00

Grant Writing Mentor for a Foundation Grant
Guidance to Prepare a Letter or Proposal for a Foundation or Corporate Grant

The Mentor will guide the member in the process of writing one Letter, Letter of Inquiry, Proposal, or Common Grant Application for a Foundation or Corporate Grant for program support, general operating support, or capital support. The Mentor may not actually perform the grantmaker research or perform any grant writing, but may provide advice and recommendations.  The member must have successfully completed one of the following courses prior to registering:  
  • Foundation Grant Package (series of 3 online courses)
  • Program Development and Proposal Writing (online course or workshop) 
Member Price:  $99.00

Grant Writing Mentor for a Government Grant
Guidance to prepare an Application for a Federal, State, or Local Government Grant

The mentor will guide the member in the process of preparing the application template, narrative, budget, budget narrative, and attachments.  The mentor may not actually perform researching the grant opportunitiy, researching statistics, or grant writing, but may provide advice and recommendations.  The member must have successfully completed one of the following prior to registering:
  • Grant Writing for Government Grants (online course)
  • Program Development and Proposal Writing (online course or workshop)
Member Price:  $199.00

Review Mentor for a Government Grant
Review of one Government Grant Application

The Mentor will provide a professional review of one Grant Application for a Federal, State, or Local grant.  The member should provide the application template complete with the Narrative, Budget, Budget Narrative, and all other attachments.  The Mentor is limited to providing advice and recommendations on the documents and may not provide writing services, rewriting services, or budget preparation services.  The member must have successfully completed one of the following courses prior to registering:
  • Grant Writing for Government Grants (online course or workshop)
  • Program Development and Proposal Writing (online course or workshop)
