American Grant Writers' Association, Inc. was incorporated in 2002.  The founding group saw a need for an organization to meet the needs of professionals who specialize in researching grants and writing proposals.  The association does not focus on other fundraising techniques or grant management, although we discuss them related to grantseeking.  To promote professional conduct of its members the organization adopted Professional Standards and Ethics.  And, to futher the professional growth of its members, the organization awards the Certified Grant Writer® Credential to its members who have demonstrated proficiency. 

The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that are appointed for a three year term of office.  Current Board Members are
